If I'm in a flare I get grittiness feelings and use ointments. (No particular brand).
What have you tried for your dry eyes? Have you had surgery on your tear ducts? Did it help?
Do you have any other tips you think help you eyes?

General Tips for Eye Care

The dryness from Sjogren's caused me to develop corneal abrasions..the symptoms woke me up in the middle of the night..intense burning like someone poured acid into my eyes..in a panic state attempted to flush the eyes with no relief.I knew something was wrong when I wasn't producing any tears..my opthalmologist examined me..ordered Restasis drops..ointment and in between apply artificial tears as needed. I was told that the condition may worsen..
ReplyDeleteThis sounds horrible the part about feeling like acid in the eyes, so sorry for you, I have dry eye all the time but it has never been like that. Hope your treatments, annoying as they are, are working and pray the condition does not worsen

ReplyDeleteDry eye or Keratoconjunctivitis sicca syndrome (KCS or dry eye) is a problem of major epidemiologic importance. It affects literally millions of people around the globe, with women dramatically over represented, particularly those women who have entered menopause. The problem may accompany dry mouth, and may be found in association with a systemic disease such as rheumatoid arthritis or systemic lupus erythematosus. It is, in many instances, far more than a simple "nuisance" problem. It has the potential for serious ocular consequences, beginning with the formation of dry spots on the cornea, progressing to epithelial defects or "abrasions" which resist healing, and then in some instances eventuating to ulceration of the cornea, sometimes even with frank perforation.
Hi all,
ReplyDeleteI have Sjogres syndrome too. About 4 years ago I found out. I have dry eyes and I got plugs into all 4 tear ducts. It helps, but there are days when I have to use artificial tears too, because they are so dry. I eyes are bother me all the time, I get conjunctivitis very often. I am not tired. I workout and I can say I'm in better shape then in my 20s. I'm 42 now. I'm taking Plaquenil , does anyone take it? I don't see any changes since I start taking it. My Dr said it's preventive, but I'm not sure if it won't do any damage to my body. I check my eyes every year and do the color test. I read about the vegan diet and gluten free diet, I may give it a try.
Thank you,
Lucica
